The Middle Ore mountains (Mittleres Erzgebirge) are considered to be the heart of Erzgebirge art. Wooden nutcrackers, incense smokers, candle arches, angels or flower-children are made with passion in famous places such as Seiffen, Olbernhau or Grünhainichen.
Czech Republic (45 km)
Using the new A17 motorway, you can reach Prague in about one hour (120 km). Another very comfortable way to go to the Czech capital is by public transit bus. The bus goes every day from Dresden main train station to Prague in the morning, back in the evening.
Winter sports
The winter sport places in the Erzgebirge such as Altenberg, Rehefeld or Holzhau can be reached in about 40 min. They have a variety of slopes for downhill skiing, as well as cross-country ski tracks.
Hiking trails
Dresden offers a lot of worthwhile excursion- and hiking destinations. The following destinations are located at the southern area of Dresden close to the hotel. If you want a hiking tour we would be happy to help you with your plans.
The Bismarck Column in Räcknitz (158 steps of a staircase) is within walking distance to our hotel (3.5 km), or can be reached by bus line 360 (one station until Südhöhe) or bus line 76 (station Altmockritz until station Südhöhe). You have a panoramic view from the viewing platform, which is only disturbed by the tower blocks of Zschertnitz into the direction Schönefelder Highlands/Borsberg. After climbing down you can go past the Moreau Monument (a few meters away from the Bismarck Column) to Zschertnitz and take the tram line 11 to reach further destinations.
The Babisnauer Pappel (poplar of Babisnau) is a widely visible 200 year old tree which is considered a Dresden landmark and worth a visit. Starting from the hotel, you can take the Nöthnitzer Strasse, or you can choose the way through the valley Eutschützer Grund to Rippien, then through the valley Gebergrund to Golberode and from there, you can reach the Babisnauer Pappel (about 6 km). From the viewing platform you have a wide view over the city up to the mountains of the Lausitz and the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland in the eastern direction. Depending on your hiking ambition, there are various routes for the way back.
The tower Fichteturm can be reached by taking the bus line 89 (from station Südhöhe towards Löbtau, station Kottestrasse). There you will have a panoramic view from the hill Windberg in the south, the uplands in the west and north of Dresden, the Saxon Switzerland and the city area of Dresden (binoculars recommended). It is worthwhile to take a side trip to the Hoher Stein which is nearby (10 to 15 min) and which has a watchtower and a viewing platform and offers an interesting view into the valley of Plauen (Plauenscher Grund). For the way down you can choose the route of Bienertweg (with information boards) and take the bus in Plauen. Those who like historical-informative routes can take the way from Plauen alongside the river Weisseritz to the bridge Nossener Brücke and through the Weisseritzgrünzug to the tram station Freiberger Strasse. Information boards in the Weisseritzgrünzug will inform you about different historical characteristics.
